Member of the Lok Sabha are elected by single-member plurality voting, the member represents their respective constituencies and hold their seats for five years and there is a provision in the constitution where on the advice of council ministers, the president of India can dissolve the body.

Currently, the house has 543 seats, initially, it was 500 in 1950, the maximum strength of the house allotted by the Indian constitution is 552 and has a seating capacity of 550. Two additional members were also nominated from Anglo-Indian Community on the advice of Indian Government by the President of India between 1952 and 2002.

Delimitation Commission of India is a commission established by the Government of India, the main task of the commission is redrawing the assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies boundaries. The present delimitation of constituencies has been done under the provisions of the Delimitation Act, 2002 on the basis of 2001 census.
