How to vote

You can vote only if your name is in the voter list also called as Electoral Roll. A voter can get information on polling booths, Elections schedule, contesting candidate, identity cards and EVM.

How to Check Name in the Voter List or Electoral Roll

Crosscheck your name in the voter list either by

    1. Logging on to electoralsearch. in
    2. Calling the Voter Helpline 1950; please add STD code
  1. SMS <ECI> space <EPIC No> to 1950 ( EPIC stands for Electors Photo Identity Card also commonly known as a Voter ID card)). Example If your EPIC is 12345678 then SMS ECI 12345678 to 1950
  2. Download Voter Helpline App; For more information check ecisveep.nic.in

Check Contesting Candidate Name

The voter can get every single piece of information such as property, candidate family members and their names, their all types of assets regarding the contesting candidates, and also check the list of the candidate as well.

How to Find Polling Booth

  1. Voters can go to electoralsearch.in
  2. Voters can call the Voter Helpline, the number is 1950
  3. For Polling station location SMS <ECIPS> space <EPIC No> to 1950

Note: Mobile phone or any smart gadget are allowed inside the pooling booth

What is the Voting Process at Polling Booth

  1. First polling official will check your name in the voter list
  2. Second, they will check your identity proof and voter card
  3. They ink your index finger
  4. Give you a slip and tell ask you to sign on a register (Form 17A)
  5. Polling officials will ask for slip and also ask you to show your inked finger, then let you proceed for voting
  6. Polling officials will record your vote by pressing the ballot button opposite the symbol of the candidate of your choice on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). If you are the first-time voter, then you should listen to the beep sound, if it happened then it is okay other then ask the officials about the issue.
  7. You will have the 7 seconds where you can have the selected candidate name with his symbol, serial number on the transparent window of the VVPAT machine before it drops in the sealed VVPAT box.
  8. If you are not confirmed or have any problem then you have the NOTA ( none of the above) option which you can use it is the last button on the EVM.

During voting which types of identity cards you can carry

  1. Aadhaar Card
  2. Voter ID card
  3. PAN card
  4. Passport
  5. Driving License
  6. MNREGA Job Card
  7. Smart Card issued by RGI under NPR
  8. Pension document with a photograph
  9. Official identity cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs
  10. Health Insurance Smart Card issued under the scheme of Ministry
  11. Sevice Identity card, if you are Central/State Govt./PSUs/Public Limited Companies employees
  12. Passbooks with photograph issued by Bank/Post Office
